Take the Ride

"What will you do with your one wild and precious life"?

~Mary Oliver

Every year, every day, every moment, is a series of decisions...sometimes we are conscious of these decisions, sometimes we are a bit asleep to them. But each of the approximately 700,000 hours we will spend on this earth will be the sum of our lives.

How are you choosing to spend them?

What are you NOT doing?

What opportunities have you missed?

I finished college (ahem) over 30 years ago, but I still to this day regret not studying abroad. I have missed family gatherings because I thought I was too busy, shied away from promotions because I thought I wasn’t capable, love interests because I didn’t want my heart to be broken.

Why?

Fear

Complacency

Playing small

And maybe a thousand other things.

But, here’s the deal, as Mary Oliver reminds, us, we have this one wild and precious life; so, my suggestion: follow the advice of Hunter S. Thompson and our guest on the podcast this week: buy the ticket and take the ride.

Sometimes the ride will be big things (Take Flying Lessons! Move Across the Country! Quit your job and start a podcast 😊)…but mostly it is a series of small decisions every day that will enhance your life. Sometimes you will have to sacrifice one thing for another.  Thus, the picture of me and Chandi with the beautiful Pacific in the back (or, you might have to trust me that it’s there since she’s terrible at selfies). The “sacrifice” was this post getting up later than I wanted…yesterday I prioritized the walk over the work.

This week Danny Rosin joins Sherry and me over at https://www.flowingeastandwest.com/ Danny started as a mischief-maker in school who alchemized his penance into the Happy Club which eventually joined forces with International Nonprofit, Operation Smile.  He turned his love for all things UNC into a brand merchandising agency and his passion for music into a non-profit giving machine.

Danny has been taking the ride from a really young age, and, yet, it is still the advice he would give to his younger self. Check out our conversation here: https://lnkd.in/giXj9y7j or wherever you listen to podcasts.
